Story of the day 04/11/04

We still suck, but Greg managed to hook up with one, ace the Springer stealing Sea Lion, and if that wasn't bad enough, we caught on picture here his Brother in law, Ryley, aka "Sky Guy" trying to steal it after he boated it! As you can see, Greg was victorious. Way to go Greg, we did not believe in such a fish till we saw that one. Ryley, get your own fish.

Latest GutZ report: "We Suck." This dry spell can't last much longer, we will be at it again next weekend.

Story of the Month March 2004

GutZ already had the boat to Pekins Ferry. Curtis and I arrived in time to set up camp and party by the fire with new friends. And I mean FIRE! You had to stand back 10 feet or so as not to incinerate. The next morning brought a little frost and a full bladder. We soon got to work on loading and launching the Ballard Ho. It was the maiden Columbia voyage so it took awhile but we were fishing by 10:00 AM or so. A little touchy getting out via the Lewis as the 'Ho has a deeper draft than some river boats. She sure ran fine and next time we are bringing a 8 horse kicker along for trolling. Great to be back on the big river. Trees are ready to bust open. It's just the beginning, we'll be back often.

Story of the Month January 2004

Griff and Collin were already in Forks and had been fishing for two days. I came up Thursday afternoon Jan 1 not expecting to wet a line until Friday. Arriving around 3:00, Griff says to come on out to the launch and fish for an hour before dark. They already had three bright fish in the boat and had released a nate. I parked the Trooper, stuffed a couple cold ones in my parka pockets and went up the muddy trail until I spotted the driftabego. Once on board I was handed a rod, clipped on a blue wart and started trolling. I was just settled in , popped open a beverage, when WHAM! Fish On. 10 minutes later my second only lifetime steely was in the boat. 30 minutes later Collin's rod did the dance, and another in the boat for a total 5 fish for the smoker. And that was just my first hour of the 2004 steelhead year. I can only hope that your New year got off to such a good start.
