FISHING AND BEER HALL OF FAME
Barry and 28 lb King
Story of the week 08/1/05
Dan and Barry take Tommycod Charter out of Neah Bay on long range Salmon. It was slow and we fished ALL DAY! What a long trip, but it was great and we each took home a King. Album here.
FISHING AND BEER HALL OF SHAME

We still suck, but Greg managed to hook up with one, ace the Springer stealing Sea Lion, and if that wasn't bad enough, we caught on picture here his Brother in law, Ryley, aka "Sky Guy" trying to steal it after he boated it! As you can see, Greg was victorious. Way to go Greg, we did not believe in such a fish till we saw that one. Ryley, get your own fish.

Latest GutZ report: "We Suck." This dry spell can't last much longer, we will be at it again next weekend.
Story of the Month March 2004
GutZ already had the boat to Pekins Ferry. Curtis and I arrived in time to set up camp and party by the fire with new friends. And I mean FIRE! You had to stand back 10 feet or so as not to incinerate. The next morning brought a little frost and a full bladder. We soon got to work on loading and launching the Ballard Ho. It was the maiden Columbia voyage so it took awhile but we were fishing by 10:00 AM or so. A little touchy getting out via the Lewis as the 'Ho has a deeper draft than some river boats. She sure ran fine and next time we are bringing a 8 horse kicker along for trolling. Great to be back on the big river. Trees are ready to bust open. It's just the beginning, we'll be back often.

Story of the Month January 2004
Griff and Collin were already in Forks and had been fishing for two days. I came up Thursday afternoon
Jan 1 not expecting to wet a line until Friday. Arriving around 3:00, Griff says to come on out to the
launch and fish for an hour before dark. They already had three bright fish in the boat and had released a nate. I parked the Trooper, stuffed a couple cold ones in my parka pockets
and went up the muddy trail until I spotted the driftabego. Once on board I was handed a rod, clipped on a blue wart
and started trolling. I was just settled in , popped open a beverage, when WHAM! Fish On. 10 minutes later my
second only lifetime steely was in the boat. 30 minutes later Collin's rod did the dance, and another in the boat
for a total 5 fish for the smoker. And that was just my first hour of the 2004 steelhead year. I can only hope that
your New year got off to such a good start.

What a weird month. The motley crew (Griff, Barry, Collin, Curtis) went to Sooke over July 4 weekend, which has always produced a cooler full of large Kings for us. Nothing, nadda, zip. The locals were struggling as well. Griff and Collin stayed an extra day and finally brought in a 11 lb. King. Oh, excuse me, that would be a Spring!
So then wanting badly to catch a fish, Dan and I went out of Neah Bay on a long range salmon trip with Tommycod Charter. It was slow but we each managed a fish. I highly recommend Tommycod for a charter out of Neah Bay. The captain works his but off chasing fish for you.

OK. So I have been slacking on the web site. Not that we haven't been fishing. But what would you rather do after a hard days work or fishing: drink beer or edit html? Gimme a break already! First trip of the year my new 10' 8-12 Griggs broke in half just casting. That was a bummer, especially as I had just walked into the Bogey ponds. Then the next day I hooked into the chrome of a lifetime on the 'Duc. Yep, Crackered her. Had tied some non determinate red 2/0 hooks on 10, and the brute STRAIGHTENED THE HOOK! I never have felt a as ferocious a head jerk as that before. Note to self, buy some decent hooks and LET IT RUN!.

Back again, finally. Have been looking forward to fall Coho all summer and it's not over yet. Next up, the Sloop Derby, stay posted.

Three springer trips and no springer for me. I guess the revenge is theirs. Could go catch one now, but getting the Amy Lynn ready to cruise. Still need to come up with a new name... suggestions?
04/16/04
GutZ is off to the Cowlitz, I'm working on the boat, Columbia again next weekend.
04/06/04
Still no cure for springer fever, but there is always next week. Meanwhile the weather is great and the camping fine. Good fishing, and catching soon to improve.

First springer trip under our belt, got the kinks worked out of the boat and now we are reay to slay a few. Becca beat us to it, but it's worth the smile.
03/14/04
Not much happening... waiting for Columbia Springers. This is the year for my revenge.

Winter blackmouth fishing ends for us, and I only made it out once. Busy chasing steelhead instead. But it was nice to get the boat out and hit the salt again. Now looking forward to Springers in the Columbia. Okay, it's March, someone needs to catch a fish and take a picture so we can get this woman and her dead nate off the page! (ha ha Becca, just kidding!).

Another great weekend on the SolDuc. Griff, Collin and I made it out, as did our friends Pete and 'Becca who fished their favorite plunking hole. We drifted the Hatchery to Maxfield twice, and Maxfield to Whitcomb Dimmel on President's day when it rained like hell. Catchng was a little slow as we managed a fish apiece, but the fishing was just fine. Now if Collin will get around to getting the pics to me, I will put a gallery up!

Fishing withdrawals. At least there is the solace of good winter ales. A month has gone by and for whatever reasons, mostly the weather, and lack of funds, and timing, no fishing since the glorious New years trip. However, Dan came down and we got the thermostat replaced on the boat, so blackmouth fishing is a possibility now. We have a possible trip to Forks planned for the weekend of the 14th, and I have the following week off for fishing and beer before starting a new job. Could be a lot worse. Cheers.

New years week continued the Christmas trend with Bogey brats willing to bite. It is reported to be one of the best returns in years. Collin had the hot hand and wins the beer hall of fame for the month. It snowed Friday night, and Saturday morning it was cold. We noticed throughout the day that the lines on the boat never thawed out. We had a hard time keeping warm, the buttered rum was a life saver. By the end of the day the earlier fish caught were fishsicles. Collin froze his thumb to a buckle on the boat tie strap. I laid a wet glove on the gravel bar for a couple minutes and when I picked it up it lifted a tennis ball size rock froze to it. When we got to town we were told it was around the 20 degree mark.
